ANNUAL REPORT 2024-2025

Advancing Farmer Mental Health Across Canada

At the Canadian Centre for Agricultural Wellbeing (CCAW), we believe mental health is as essential to the future of farming as land, water, and seed.

This year, we expanded programs, built national partnerships, and brought together industry, government, and care providers — all to move the conversation from awareness to action.

It has reminded us why our work matters and, more importantly, who we do it for.

This past year has been one of the most meaningful in the short history of the Canadian Centre for Agricultural Wellbeing (CCAW). The foundation of our impact lies in a three-pillar strategy.

Evidence & Innovation

Grounding all programming in farmer-led, evidence-based insights.

Education & Programming

Creating tailored resources that work in real-life farm contexts.

Policy & Engagement

Bringing together advocates, decision-makers & frontline providers to drive lasting change.

AG CRISIS & COUNSELLING SUPPORT

National Farmer WELLNESS NETWORK

The launch of the National Farmer Crisis Line was a defining moment. For years, farmers and their families have shared with us what it feels like to carry the weight of uncertainty, isolation, and unrelenting pressure. Many have told us stories of late nights, sitting at the kitchen table, not knowing where to turn.

The crisis line changes that. Today, there is a number to call. There is someone on the other end who understands agriculture and who is ready to listen. The impact of this service has already been deeply moving.

MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY FOR AG

In tHE Know

In 2024–2025, In the Know took a major step forward in its national rollout. We expanded Canada’s only agriculture-specific mental health literacy program, training dozens of new facilitators and delivering sessions coast to coast.

A total of 30 mental health professionals across six provinces were trained to deliver the program, representing a significant investment in building long-term capacity to support Canadian farmers.

TOOLKIT FOR CRISIS

Catastrophic Event Response

We released two new toolkit inserts (on climate disasters and farm trauma), revised the core toolkit based on farmer feedback, and created audience-specific versions for crisis liaisons and clinicians.

Through the Canadian Agricultural Literacy Program (CALP), we continued training health professionals in ag-literacy so they can better support farmers in crisis.

This national gathering brought together 130+ leaders from across Canada to align funding, programs, and policy for farmer mental health.

Held biennially, the 2025 Symposium featured world-class speakers and deepened collaboration across sectors, shaping the next era of farmer wellness support.

A NATIONAL SHIFT IS UNDERWAY

The Centre’s resources are being actively integrated into emergency planning across the country.

From toolkits and training to summits and symposiums, our community is growing and the demand for contextual, coordinated support is louder than ever.

A THANK YOU TO OUR PartnerS

It’s with our deepest gratitude that we acknowledge this work would not be possible without the vision, support, and trust of the many organizations, communities, and individuals who are walking alongside us. We’ve seen what’s possible when wellbeing becomes a shared priority—not just for farmers and their families, but for the future of agriculture in Canada.

Together, we’re building real capacity, shifting sector culture, and creating lasting impact.

Together, We’re Changing the Story.

We’re always looking to explore new partnerships and sponsorships across Canada to ensure that every farmer and farm family has the support they need to thrive.
